A Powerful Gathering—Highlights from the 2025 International Mining Women Conference

On February 20, 2025, history was made.
The inaugural International Mining Women Conference (IMWC) held at the prestigious Ladi Kwali Hall, Abuja Continental Hotel, brought together policymakers, industry leaders, international dignitaries, development partners, and passionate stakeholders under the theme:
“Empowering Women in the Mining Sector: Promoting Gender Equality, Economic Empowerment, and Investment Opportunities.”

Hosted by N & G Consulting Firm Ltd in partnership with the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, the conference addressed one of the sector’s most pressing issues—gender disparity.

Key highlights from the event included:

• Opening address by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, First Lady of Nigeria (represented), reaffirming the government’s commitment to gender equity.

• Thought-provoking keynote sessions and fireside chats exploring the business case for gender equality in mining.

• Inspiring business pitches by women miners—showcasing innovation and determination despite systemic challenges.

• Voices from UN Women, the Bank of Industry, and Ambassadors from the DRC, Canada, the Philippines, and others highlighted the global relevance of gender inclusivity in extractive industries.

The conference didn’t stop at dialogue—it ignited commitments. A gender-forward roadmap was introduced, covering policy reforms, mentorship structures, investment opportunities, and capacity-building.
