From Policy to Impact—Charting a New Path for Women in Mining
The 2025 International Mining Women Conference (IMWC) may have ended, but its impact has only just begun.
Held on February 20 at Ladi Kwali Hall, Abuja Continental Hotel, the conference brought together an extraordinary mix of government officials, global experts, financiers, and grassroots women miners—all united by a single vision: to build a more inclusive, profitable, and sustainable mining sector for women in Nigeria and beyond.
Organized by N & G Consulting Firm Ltd, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, the conference emphasized actionable solutions rather than just conversation.
💡 What Set This Conference Apart?
Cross-sector collaboration: Ministries, development agencies, private investors, and community stakeholders engaged directly with women miners.
Practical sessions: Topics ranged from accessing finance, to environmental sustainability, to navigating local and international mining regulations.
Data-driven insights: Research-backed panels emphasized how women’s participation boosts economic returns and social impact in extractive industries.
Speakers and guests included high-level representatives from:
UN Women, Bank of Industry, and Solid Minerals Development Fund
Ambassadors and development partners from the DRC, Philippines, and Canada
Business and legal experts like Prof. Peter Akper and Mrs. Ronke Soyombo
What stood out most was the bold push to transition from policy to impact:
The unveiling of a gender-focused policy roadmap
Commitments to pilot programs in selected states
A proposal for an accelerator program for women-led mining businesses
The conference concluded with a resounding affirmation:
“Women are not just participants in the mining sector—they are leaders, innovators, and change-makers. The time to act is now.”
As the dust settles, stakeholders are already mobilizing to ensure the IMWC’s legacy leads to long-term empowerment, investment, and equality.
