Breaking Barriers: Women Take the Lead in Nigeria’s Mining Sector
For decades, Nigeria’s mining sector has been male-dominated. But on February 20, 2025, women stood tall and redefined the narrative.
At the International Mining Women Conference, hosted in Abuja by N & G Consulting Firm Ltd, voices from all corners of the globe united for one mission: to unlock opportunities for women across the mining value chain.
What made the conference unique?
Real women miners shared real stories—like Hajiya Amina Diakwo of Aksimal Nigeria Ltd and Ms. Yemisi Adeshola, a 23-karat gold miner from Osun State.
A documentary screening, “Their Stories and Struggles,” provided a powerful lens into the life and challenges of women miners.
Industry leaders like Prof. Peter Akper and UN Women representatives laid out the case for inclusive growth.
The event hosted leaders from over 10 countries, underscoring the global urgency of addressing gender gaps in extractive industries.
The conference closed with a clear call to action:
“Let’s move from policy talk to implementation. Let’s empower women not just as workers, but as leaders and decision-makers in mining.”
The road ahead includes mentorship programs, regional pilot projects, and an accelerator initiative focused on women in mining.
This was more than a conference. It was a movement.
